I feel that Bassem Youssef has sold his soul to the proverbial devil! He is finding refuge in a culture that supports him ONLY if he attacks Egypt, hence he has to continue to deliver in order to continue to stay in its confines. There will come a time when this support will be withdrawn, once he is of no use to the game being played. He will then return to the obscurity from which he arose. Poor Bassem, he traded all that is valuable for a few dollars.

Too bad, I used to like Dr. Youssef and his programs. Unfortunately, he does not express the Egyptian's gefhul. He should meet some of the Egyptians living in the USA ( I am one of them), and interrogates them before making his sarcastic remarks about Egypt. Of course, there are few MB in the USA, but their voice is not as vociferous as ours.

I think you probably misunderstood him. How we see Bassem is through a filter of our own . In fact, the audience we think he addresses is also through a filter of our own . When the new Suez canal was inaugurated, some people saw it as a great achievement . These people loved Egypt. Others saw it as a clear sign of absence of planning or vision . These also love Egypt. Bassem belonged to the second group. So if you belonged to the first , this means that he is criticising all of Egypt.

If you are sarcastic of a segment of Egyptian society that doesn't mean you don't love Egypt. The problem starts when this segment thinks that they ''are'' Egypt.

Moreover, Bassem wasn't unpopular after the 3rd of July 2013. the difference is that he had no more freedom of speech .

I wasn't speaking about the New Suez Canal at all. I'm worried about the project myself. I criticize his ability to ridicule the joy that the Egyptians were feeling.
He has done it again and again. End result, he has definitely burned his bridges.
