Sheikh Mohamed Gwely, head of the Salafi Call in Matruh, attacked the Al-Nour Party, saying that leaders in Alexandria have forgotten or ignored their beliefs.
Days before elections are set to begin, the Al-Nour Party and its religious arm, the Salafi Call, have been embroiled in internal conflicts.
Sheikh Mohamed Gwely, head of the Salafi Call in Matruh, attacked the Al-Nour Party, saying that leaders in Alexandria have forgotten or ignored their beliefs.
He explained that the movement in Alexandria has turned to call for partisanship and “malicious liberalism”, and allied with the “enemies of Islam”.
He called on the leaders of the Salafi Call to repent and return to the original cause, and to abide by the rituals of the Quran and the Sunnah.
Meanwhile, Salah Abdel Maaboud, a member of the supreme council of the Al-Nour Party, said the party has strong relationship with its followers in Marsa Matruh, where many of them are running for the elections on the party’s list, noting that the party has been campaigning strongly in the governorate.
He added that the attack organised by Sheikh Mohamed Gwely on the Salafist movement and the party does not indicate differences between the leaders and followers.
He further described the relations between both groups as strong, noting that Gwely resigned from the movement years ago, and accusing him of trying to disperse the movement by casting such accusations.
