Whom you know and how much extra money you can spare, would have helped you without queues and running up and down the stairs. I lived in Cairo for 19 years and having friends in the executive offices helped a lot.

I wonder, would it? Would the staffer have gone down 7 floors for me to pay for the translations? I doubt it. Would the mother of all stamps, the Eagle one, have moved from the other building closer to where I was? I don't think so.
I'm sure though, had I resorted to someone who knows the ins and outs of the place, he'd have done the running around himself and I wouldn't have budged.
