Over the past six months, 10.6 million Egyptian women have attended clinics on family planning, official data revealed yesterday.
The government’s half-yearly report added that the workshops were part of the so-called “Rapid Population Growth and Urbanization” programme, which was recently initiated by the government and aim at reducing population growth and raising awareness of its negative impact on the society.
“The number of attendees at the family planning clinics reached eight million,” the report noted, explaining that more than 10,900 workshops were organised “to raise awareness on the importance of family planning and the reduced population growth.”
“1,147,861 women across 2,257 Egyptian villages have received reproductive health and family planning government services,” the government pointed out.
The program also included the development of the existing urban cities through pumping about 8, 798,000 Egyptian pounds of investment, in addition to the establishment of the so-called “Fourth Generation Integrated Cities,” such as the Cairo New Administrative Capital.
The government, the report added, have invested 18,185,000 Egyptian pounds in the development of 163-kilometre length water networks, 145 sewage networks, and 308-kilometre length electricity nets.
The Egyptian government has been carrying out numerous family planning campaigns in several provinces, in an attempt to rescue the country’s striving economy. Last July, the country’s Ministry of Health and Population, represented in the population and family planning department, launched a family planning campaign, dubbed “she is capable,” in various governorates, during which family planning experts volunteered as consultants for the families.
