Egypt’s Sisi follows-up on executive plan for national project to develop 1000 villages nationwide

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had a meeting on Saturday with Presidential Adviser for Urban Planning Maj. Gen. Amir Sayed Ahmed to follow-up on the executive plan for the national project that is to develop 1000 villages nationwide, a statement by the Egyptian presidency said.

During the meeting, Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said that El-Sisi has directed the crystallisation of the national project in the context of an integrated and organised effort by all concerned governmental agencies.

El-Sisi’s directives came, Rady said, within the framework of the state's sustainable development efforts targeting Egyptian rural areas, to raise the capabilities of the infrastructure of these villages in all service, living and social aspects to change the reality of life - for their citizens - for the better and in a comprehensive manner.

This, Rady says, is to keep up with the ongoing development efforts that include all sectors in the country.

The meeting also witnessed the reviewing of details in the general plan for the 1,000 villages national project - which are distributed in almost 22 governorates - that aims to upgrade the efficiency of their services in integration with Egypt’s national program 'Decent Life' for the development of rural communities, added Rady.

The project's general plan, which comes over the course of three stages and through several axes, aims at improving the standard of living for citizens; reducing poverty rates; developing the infrastructure and providing basic services to them, especially in education; in schools; housing; electricity; sanitation; drinking water and natural gas, said Rady.

It also focuses on waste recycling, the establishment of industrial zones to promote small and medium enterprises (SMEs), developing health units, raising the efficiency of irrigation networks, enhancing agricultural and veterinary services, as well as establishing a series of advanced dairy collection centers, the spokesperson noted.
